Part… 8

I spent the next two weeks working my butt off.

I packed, I unpacked, I took on extra hours at work, I took a tutoring gig helping my neighbors preteens with their school work. Since COVID has schools shut down, kids seems a bit lost now, heck I’m lost now.

Their daughter Samantha wants to be a journalist, she currently writes dramitized articles on what goes on throughout her day and we read them of an evening. She is good, and I admit, the stories do help take my mind off of the things going on now.

Their son Johnathan, wants nothing more than to study History and look at old things. These past weeks he has been obsessed with World War 2. Watching his face and enthusiasm as he talks about the details of each page he’s read and his thoughts on every outcome… I wish I had that kind of fire burning in me right now.

I think my mindset right now is nothing more than ‘Keep busy’. It’s hard to find enough to keep my mind occupied with everything in the world being shut down still and uncertain. So many people are out of work right now or scared to start back at work. I don’t think anyone really knows what to expect or what moves they should be making next. Its comforting to know I’m not alone.

Mike has been giving me the space I’ve needed over these past two weeks too. I agreed to meet with him after I met a deadline with my company, since this project marks the end of my contract with them and opens up the opportunity to either move on or re-up.

Which means I’m either moving or staying put…

I’m anxious about everything right now.

What moves do I make?

What is right, what is wrong?

Where’s the How to book for my life ? lol

I hope someone is finding my dilemma’s interesting…

Masks in the gym?!??

Admit it, are you really wearing them the whole time? 🤔

If you ever used the stair master in your gym, you know that thing gives you a birds eye view of 90% of the other patrons . You see everything.

From nose pickers to selfie takers.

It’s all out in the open.

So of course, I’m sweating myself into puddle and watching how many people are wearing masks, wiping off equipment and touching their faces in between sets…

Not judging, just watching and thinking.

Distraction is the key to getting through cardio 👌🏼

Right now, despite the constant rise and fall of COVID numbers across the country, masks are not required to be worn during physical strenuous activity.

If you already can’t breath while doing 45 minutes on the stair master it’s pretty obvious you won’t be able to breath with a mask on, right?

The requirement (that I’ve seen in the places I’ve been recently) is you must wear the mask when entering and walking around. But during the time you’re confined to one machine, it doesn’t need to be on your face.

So… are you going to the gym? Are you wearing a mask ?

And when is someone going to invent some chewing gum that helps with all the acne break outs due to wearing these masks for so long???

My current trick (or at least what I’m rolling with for now 🤷🏻‍♀️)…

  • Wear a Washable mask
  • On cardio equipment, slide that baby down a bit! Right now equipment is spaced out to every other unit, so I feel fine letting my nose breath 😂
  • Don’t touch your face!!!
  • Wear a jacket, use the sleeve to open your water bottle 👌🏼
  • Keep antibacterial wipes (found at Walgreens) in your gym arsenal – wipe your your hands, wipe your face down when you get in your car and remove that nasty mask
  • Keep your distance. Some people are trying to keep space between them and other patrons at all times, but… some still don’t care and will never learn personal boundaries. Take control of the situation.
  • Take it outside! When all else fails, take it outside. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is the bomb! Get on YouTube, find you some free workouts and kill it.

Can you relate?

Where do all these new writers find the time, the energy and the readers to boost their self published books so quickly??

Paying out the nose for people’s interest just doesn’t seem to be right in my mind. Is it just me? Is paying for constant ads and/or banking on family and friends to actually read and review your work really your only option when doing this alone?

A good friend of mine, one who writes and edits as a fairly profitable profession, told me your worst readers are the people closest to you. Basically, everyone who talks so highly of your “ambitious idea” will praise you to your face and then expect everything for free and will give you nothing.

I saw that first hand when my first book was published.

Some bought it and read it just to find any and every little flaw. Some purchased just to say they did and still haven’t read a word. And others are still talking about buying my work and go this day this I’ve still not seen the sales. 😂

Who else can relate?

Nothing opens before 7am, everything closes early, some restaurants still don’t allow dine in, and it’s still confusing and hard to tell when you are required to wear a mask or when you’re not allowed to have more than yourself accompany you.

I think I’ve been kicked out of a total of 3 offices this week due to them having a “patient only” rule and not informing us until we arrived… and at one point I registered a fever of 107 after being outside and waiting in my car for my appointment. Of course it was just due to the heat, but the look I received from everyone upon the thermometers reading was a bit scary. 😬

Masks have become the new normal.

After being the 2nd hardest thing to find next to toilet paper, now they’re everywhere you look in every pattern and style from plaid to glittery gems.

Go team sparkle! 💎

Slowly but surely people are growing accustomed to all the new changes. But we still have a ways to go. There’s a growing concern that things are opening up too soon and while some are taking every precaution, there are still a few that feel they are invincible and above the precautions.

How long will we be living like this?

Is this something that we will just adjust to overtime and slowly forget the way things use to be?

Or will we see real long term and positive changes from all of this?
